The first part of the name Pearl Izumi is easy. As you'd expect, it comes from "pearl," the gem. The second word "Izumi," is taken from an area of Japan known for its clear water. 

Literally translated, Pearl Izumi means, "fountain of pearls," an appropriate name for a company that fountain-like, continually produces clothing gems. Equally interesting, Pearl was founded 50 years ago in Tokyo when a father produced Japan's first bicycle clothing for his son, a promising racer.
